Forskning
Peter Johansson sysslar i sin forskning med teoretisk fasta tillståndets fysik. På senare år har forskningen fokuserat på plasmonik som handlar om optiska egenskaper hos nanopartiklar och nanostrukturer, ofta bestående av ädelmetaller. Inom plasmonik studeras fenomen som kan användas för att styra, koncentrera och fokusera ljus till små volymer. Tillämpningar av detta finns till exempel vid studier av enstaka biomolekyler. Mycket av forskningen görs tillsammans med experimentella grupper, i första hand vid Chalmers.
