Research subject

This study evaluates the cost-effectiveness of different HPV-sampling methods and triage methods in cervical cancer screening, for women aged 64-69 years. Population screening for preventable diseases is important for several reasons. In addition to potentially preventing suffering and disease, screening aims to increase opportunities for equitable and efficient healthcare. Well-functioning screening programs also have cost-saving effects for society, as disease and its associated sick leave and treatment can be prevented. HPV screening has been shown to increase the number of unnecessary follow-up investigations and with these also increased costs, it has therefor been recommended that changes be made to the screening program's setup to increase the efficiency of resource use.
