Research subject

Preterm infants have an increased risk of negative sequelae from their preterm birth. The time they would have spent in the womb where it´s quiet and dark is instead spent in a neonatal intensive care unit filled with negative stimuli with bright light, noises and painful procedures. Adjustments to the nursing care and the physical environment is believed to affect the infant’s development in a positive way.

A systematic literature review is planned to investigate if Individualized developmental care interventions can promote development and prevent morbidity in preterm infants.
