In Sweden, the number of stroke patients has declined over the last decade, from around 30 000 persons per year to 25 000 persons yearly. Men have their stroke five years earlier than women and in the younger age groups men dominate while in the age group above 80 years women make up the majority. There are conflicting data on differences between men and women regarding access to care and outcome. The purpose ois to better understand the changes in stroke incidence and outcome and if the pattern is similar in men and women. By using the Swedish Stroke Register, Riksstroke, incidence, risk factors, age distribution, acute care, secondary prevention, and outcome in men and women with stroke during 15 years, between 2005-2018 will be analyzed.
