This research project focuses on reception and appropriation processes of indie music in Turkey, and it covers three decades from 1990s to 2010s periodically. The project’s conceptual framework lies in the intersection of music sociology, popular music studies, cultural sociology and cultural history. Apart from narrating social/cultural/political history of indie music’s emergence and development in the country, the project is intended to develop a theoretically innovative, methodologically convenient and transregionally appropriable notion which is called subcultural transfer.
