Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are ubiquitous in the environment and are also present in road dust in urban and rural areas. Resuspension may be considered the most important fate of road dust PAHs and greatest point of concern for direct human exposure and health. In this project a combining of chemical (GC/MS) and biological (H4IIE-luc) screening are used to evaluate the concentrations, distribution and aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR)-mediated activity (cocktail effect) of PAHs and related compounds in road dust samples collected from Dubai, Barcelona and a number of Swedish cities.
