About Ulrika Sultan

Teaching

I primarily teach technology i teacher programme, the primary teacher programme F-3 and the primary teacher programme years 4-6. I supervise and examine independent projects in

  • science and technology education
  • mathematics didactics
  • KPU (biology and chemistry)
  • Subject teacher education programme (biology)

I have also taught at primary elementary and subject teacher training in technology, grades 7-9 and upper secondary at Linköping and Gothenburg University. At Gothenburg University, I supervised student work in pedagogy and technology didactics with content such as programming, digital learning games, gender and identity.

My teaching is based on the students gaining practical and theoretical knowledge of what technology is and can be. Technology education is as much about thinking as it is about doing. A piece of the puzzle for effective teaching is to break the students' often negative image of their technical ability and create a positive image of themselves as technical.

Research

I have a PhD in technology education. I am defending my dissertation in Spring 2024. Link to PhD Thesis -In whose eyes am I technical?: Exploring the ‘problem’ of the (non)technical girl

My research concerns the technology interests of girls aged 9-16 and how that interest cd up to adulthood. By that, I meant that I looked broadly and deeply at how society's structures and cultures could affect the interest in technology; technology could influence girls' participation in and development of the future. I promote interest in technology as a democratic issue in the sense that an interest in technology gives students opportunities to be co-creators of the future on equal terms.
