About Sevgi Bayram-Ozdemir

Sevgi Bayram Özdemir is an associate professor in psychology. She obtained her PhD in applied developmental psychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, USA.

Research 

Sevgi Bayram Özdemir’s research focuses on understanding the roles of family and school in the development of positive and negative inter-ethnic relationship among youth. It also involves identifying risk and protective factors within family, peer, and school settings for the psychosocial and academic adjustment of youth from ethnic/racial/religious minority, immigrant, and marginalized groups. Her ultimate goal is to contribute to social justice, equality, and social integration of minority groups by developing scientific knowledge and raising awareness on diversity related issues.

Teaching 

Sevgi Bayram Özdemir teaches courses in the psychology program and supervises students writing their master’s theses at Örebro University.

Collaboration and assignments 

Sevgi Bayram Özdemir served as a member of the executive council of the European Association for Developmental Psychology (EADP) from 2015 to 2021 and worked as the treasurer of EADP. Since 2024, she has been a member of the board of directors of the Society for Research on Adolescence.

Sevgi is an associated partner for the Flourish project, co-funded by the European Union.

She is an associate editor for the European Journal of Developmental Psychology and a consulting editor for Child Development and Cultural Diversity and Ethnic Minority Psychology.
