About Jack Lainpelto

My research interest primarily revolves around the connection between two phenomena, power and working life. Today we live in a society where the issue of employment has become a central starting point for the common belief in the future. At the same time, individualisation has grown strong, which is not least expressed by notions of working life as an arena for self-realization. At the intersection where power and individualized people meet, I am interested in questions related to career choices, educational choices and experiences of autonomy. These questions provide an opportunity to examine the hotel and restaurant industry from a larger perspective and help to shed light on companies' most important resource: the hospitality workers.
