Research
Knee replacement surgery is a common and very successful treatment in end stage osteoarthritis, when other treatments have failed. However, it is not whithout complications and far from all patients get completely happy with their new knee joint.
In knee replacement surgery the use of surgical robots has become more and more common during the last decade in the western world. Surgical robots in this case make a higher degree of precision possible and facilitate a more individually adjustable surgical technique for each patient. However, no such robots have been used in swedish health care until our studies started.
The studies, partly, are a collaboration with Sahgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg. Our aim is to compare the results after knee replacement surgery in different ways, between surgeries made with robotic assistance and surgeries performed with traditional, manual technique.
