About Dimitri Beeckman

 

Dimitri Beeckman is a professor of nursing science at Örebro University (Sweden) and Ghent University (Belgium). As pro-vice-chancellor for internationalization at Örebro University, he leads the university's internationalization strategy and takes a leadership role in the NEOLAiA European University initiative, where Örebro University is one of nine partner institutions.

As programme director of the MSc in Nursing and Midwifery at Ghent University, he oversees one of the four master's programmes for nursing and midwifery in Flanders, Belgium. The programme is designed to be future-proof, with specific majors in clinical nurse specialization, implementation science, and research.

He also holds visiting professorships at the University of Southern Denmark, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, and Monash University (Australia). His expertise spans skin and wound research, clinical trials, psychometrics, healthcare education, and implementation science.

Professor Beeckman is the scientific coordinator of the Swedish Centre for Skin and Wound Research (SCENTR) at Örebro University and the Skin Integrity Research Group (SKINT) at Ghent University. He is a Past President of both the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) and the International Skin Tear Advisory Panel (ISTAP). He currently serves as President of the European Wound Management Association (EWMA), the largest European not-for-profit umbrella organization, bringing together national wound management associations, individual experts, and groups with an interest in wound care.

With over 230 scientific publications in high-impact international peer-reviewed journals, Professor Beeckman has made significant contributions to nursing science. He is a consulting editor for the Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing and the Journal of Tissue Viability. Additionally, he serves as an associate editor of the International Journal of Nursing Studies, the world's highest-impact journal in the field of nursing.

He is a fellow of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, the European Academy of Nursing Science (EANS), and the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN).
