About Denny Jansson

Denny Jansson is a doctoral student in Swedish language, and a certified subject teacher for teaching Swedish, Swedish as a second language and history in upper secondary school and primary school grades 7-9.

Research

Denny's research interest is in language use and linguistic variation, with a particular focus on how young people and school students use different linguistic varieties in different contexts, both in speech and in writing. In his dissertation project, Denny explores the school as a linguistic meeting place, what dialect is for students in a school located in a geographical place where different dialects meet, and how different locations in the school create opportunities for linguistic variation. Another interest is how places and spaces are constituted through language and other semiotic systems, and how this affects both the perception of space and place, and the perceptions of what language use is expected in different such places.
