About Annalena Kamm
Educational Background
Annalena holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Nutritional Sciences from Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany.
In 2020, Annalena’s edjucational journey has taken her to Sweden, where she wrote her Master's thesis at the Nutrition-Gut-Brain Interactions Research Centre at Örebro University, supported by the DAAD Promos Scholarship, followed by a Research Assistant Internship in the same group within the Erasmus+ Traineeship programme.
Research
Since 2021, she is pursuing a PhD in Medical Sciences within the Formas-funded PAN Sweden Research Centre.
Her research focuses on the “Effects of Plant-Based Proteins on Gut and Metabolic Health” and is driven by her strong passion for microbiota research and its implications for human health.
Through dietary intervention studies and collaborations with other universities, research centres and industry partners, Annalena's research aims to contribute to the growing understanding of (gut) health and nutrition, bridging science and application for a healthier and more sustainable future.
Teaching
Annalena is engaged in academic teaching and student supervision, including:
- International Master's Programme in Experimental Medicine (2024): Lecture on the role of gut microbiota and diet in inflammation
- Medical Programme (since 2023): Tutor for basgrupps (problem-based learning)
- Co-supervision of (international) Bachelor and Master students
Others
To further develop her expertise, Annalena is actively involved in multiple research and professional development programs, including the Bengt Ihre Research School focusing on Gastroenterology (2021 - 2023), organised by Linköping University and the Lift Graduate School focusing on Food Industry (since 2021), organised by Food Science Sweden.
She also participated in the Junior Faculty and DokSek Mentorship Programme at Örebro University (June 2024 - January 2025) and the NEOLAiA ESR Mentorship Programme (since 2025).
