Om Peter Berglez
Peter Berglez’ forskning berör primärt följande tre områden:
Global journalistik
Vilken är journalistikens roll i en globaliserad värld? Kan medierna binda samman det lokala och nationella med omvärlden, dvs. producera globala utblickar (global outlooks) som gör det enklare att förstå det som sker hemmavid? Hur utvecklas mediernas förmåga att rapportera om globala frågor som klimatet, ekonomi, energikrisen med mera? Hur kan digitalisering, nätverksamhället och sociala plattformar bidra till gränsöverskridande journalistik? I snart 20 år har Peter Berglez publicerat två böcker (inklusive en avhandling), artiklar, bokkapitel och rapporter om global journalistik. Hans teoretiska och empiriska bidrag är internationellt etablerade inom både forskning- och journalistikutbildningar.
På senare år har han i samarbete med forskarkollegor, FOJO Media Institute, och mediebranschen, utvecklat det nära besläktade begreppet sustainable journalism. Sustainable journalism/hållbar journalistik syftar till att bättre förstå journalistikens roll i relation till hållbar utveckling; dess utmaningar, potentialer, specifika nyhetsvärderingskriterier, men även problem och hinder. From 2022 är Berglez styrelseledamot i det internationella nätverket Sustainable Journalism Partnership
Klimatkommunikation
Berglez har lång erfarenhet av att empiriskt studera miljöfrågor- och kontroverser i medierna, både i traditionella medier och på sociala plattformar. Genom projekt finansierade av Formas har fokus hittills varit på säkerhet/osäkerhet; klimatskam; journalisters förmåga/oförmåga att rapportera klimatet, samt kopplingar mellan extremväder och klimat på sociala plattformar. Genom ett SIDA-projekt har han undersökt klimatkommunikation i Uganda tillsammans med lokala forskare.
Tvärprofessionella relationer, samverkan och medier/kommunikation
Berglez’ forskning undersöker relationer mellan professionskulturer och mediers betydelse, särskilt sociala plattformar. I ett tidigare projekt, finansierat av Vetenskapsrådet och lett av Berglez, undersöktes journalisters, politikers och PR-kommunikatörers vardagsinteraktion på Twitter. Prioriterade frågor är kommunikationsutmaningar (missförstånd, spänningar, asymmetrier/ojämlikhet mellan deltagare etc.); hur olika professioners kunskapsperspektiv transformeras eller hybridiseras genom kommunikationen, och vägar till framgångsrik och effektiv kommunikation i samverkansprojekt.
