Om Metin Özdemir
Metin Özdemir är docent i psykologi och verksam i forskningsmiljön LEADER, Center for Lifespan Developmental Research, vid Örebro universitet. Han disputerade i tillämpad socialpsykologi vid universitetet i Maryland, Baltimore County, USA, 2009.
Forskning
Metin Özdemirs forskning rör frågor kopplade till ungdomars anpassning och välmående. Ett särskilt fokus är ungdomar med flykting- och invandrarbakgrund och deras anpassning till skola och jämnåriga. Hans forskning rör också utveckling och utvärdering av förebyggande insatser som syftar till att främja anpassning hos just dessa ungdomar.
Metin Özdemir leder ett forskningsprojekt där målet är att utveckla evidensbaserade åtgärdsprogram som vänder sig till både ungdomar och deras föräldrar. Dessa program syftar till att främja nyanlända flyktingars och invandrares anpassning och välmående i samband med att de etablerar sig i det nya landet. Metin Özdemir ingår också i andra forskningsprojekt som bland annat undersöker relationer bland ungdomar med olika etnisk bakgrund.
Undervisning
Metin Özdemir undervisar på grundnivå, avancerad nivå och forskarnivå och leder workshops vid myndigheter och andra organisationer. Han undervisar i forskningsmetod, statistik, förebyggande arbete, samt om utveckling och utvärdering av åtgärdsprogram. Han undervisar i kvantitativa metoder för dataanalys på psykologprogrammet och i forskarutbildningen. Han handleder också masterstudenter liksom internationella studenter som gjort forskningspraktik vid Örebro universitet. Han är dessutom huvudhandledare för två doktorander och biträdande handledare för en doktorand.
Samarbeten och uppdrag
Metin Özdemir är sedan 2016 ledamot i den verkställande kommittén för European Association for Research on Adolescence (EARA, https://www.earaonline.org). Han är rådgivande redaktör för APA:s tidskrift Cultural Diversity and Ethnic Minority Psychology, och är en av två representanter för Sverige i det europeiska nätverket European Family Support Network (COST Action, CA18123; https://eurofamnet.eu/home). Metin Özdemir leder också ett samarbetsprojekt med forskare från Karolinska Institutet, Umeå universitet och norska Folkhelseintituttet (https://www.oru.se/PIAProjekt).
