Om Johannes Westberg
Johannes Westberg är professor i pedagogik med inriktning mot förskolan och de yngre åldrarna. Westberg är också bland annat koordinator för det nordiska utbildningshistoriska nätverket, medlem i redaktionen för Nordic Journal of Educational History, korresponderande medlem i redaktionsrådet för History of Education (UK) och medlem av international advisory board för Paedagogica Historica. På Örebro universitet ingår Westberg i handledarkollegiet för ämnet pedagogik, har särskilt ansvar för forskarutbildningen i ämnet, och är ledamot i HS-nämndens lärarförslagskommitté.
När tiden tillåter bidrar jag gärna med kommentarer till skoldebattens beskrivningar och förklaringar av skolans utveckling, se t.e.x. SvD (18/1 2018), SoS (8/2 2018), och Utbildningshistoriska pekpinnar (14/6 2019).
Forskning
Westberg har sedan han disputerade på en avhandling om förskolepedagogikens historia i Uppsala 2008, forskat om såväl utbildningens innehåll och form, som dess samhälleliga förutsättningar, ur ett historiskt perspektiv. Störst intresse har han ägnat förskolans och skolans historia, och frågor kring utbildningens sociala och ekonomiska historia, materiell kultur, lärarnas historia, utbildningens politiska diskurser, och internationella spridningsprocesser.
Westberg har publicerat ett 50-tal bokkapitel och artiklar, det senare i bland annat History of Education, Paedagogica Historica, Scandinavian Journal of History och IJHE Bildungsgeschichte. Han har varit redaktör och medredaktör för mer än 10 böcker och temanummer, däribland läroboken Utbildningens historia – en introduktion (Studentlitteratur, 3 uppl. 2019), och School Acts and the Rise of Mass Schooling (Palgrave Macmillan, 2019). Han har också skrivit två monografier: Att bygga ett skolväsende (Nordic Academic Press, 2014) och Funding the Rise of Mass Schooling (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017).
Westberg har tidigare finansierat sin forskning med olika anslag från Vetenskapsrådet och Handelsbankens forskningsstiftelser. Han är för närvarande ledare för projektet ”Hur påverkade politiska beslut skolväsendenas framväxt?" (Vetenskapsrådet, 2017-2021), och forskar om den svenska förskolans expansion efter 1970. Han medverkar också i två utbildningsvetenskapliga projekt som erhöll finansiering från Vetenskapsrådet 2017. Ett kort CV och en publikationslista finns här>>
