11 februari 2025 12:15 – 13:00 Hörsal X1, Campus USÖ Öppet för alla
Welcome!
MV Science Forum invites to a lecture with Mussie Msghina, physiologist and psychiatrist working at the School of Medical Sciences, Örebro University.
Title: The physiological basis of psychiatry – focus on ADHD
Mussie Msghina is physiologist and psychiatrist working at the School of Medical Sciences, Örebro University. He did his medical and doctoral studies at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, where he studied purinergic and adrenergic co-transmission in vascular and non-vascular smooth muscle tissues.
After completing his PhD, Mussie Msghina did post-doctoral fellowships at the University of Toronto in Canada, Oxford in the UK and National Institute of Health (NIH) in the U.S. At various times in his career, Professor Msghina has studied purinergic, adrenergic, dopaminergic, glutamatergic and GABAergic neurotransmission in fruit fly, crayfish, mouse and rat to correlate the physiology and morphology of quantal transmitter release from single nerve endings, visualized with confocal microscopy för detailed physiology and later labeled and processed with electron microscopy.
Currently, Mussie Msghina is professor and senior consultant in psychiatry and leads a group that studies the physiological, anatomical and neurochemical basis of brain function in health and mental illness, using a combination of methods that include, among other things, MRI, NIRS, cognitive paradigms, pharmacological interventions, with focus on the pathophysiology and treatment of ADHD and psychosis.
The lecture will be given in English.
