From Greek Mythology to the School of Health Sciences: How mentoring drives professional growth and development

29 augusti 2024 08:15 – 09:00 Campus Örebro, Prismahuset, P243

Open lecture with Prof. Dimitri Beeckman on the impact of mentoring on academic careers at the School of Health Sciences.

Discover the origins of the term "mentor" from Greek mythology, where Mentor guided and advised Telemachus in Homer's Odyssey. Understand how mentoring has evolved into a supportive relationship that guides professional and personal growth.

This lecture will highlight the elements of a mentoring programme, emphasising mutual benefits, practical approaches for effective mentor-mentee relationships, and strategies to support academic and professional development. The lecture is suitable for both senior and junior academics.

The lecture marks the start of the mentoring programme for the academic year 2024-2025. Application for the next round will open in the spring of 2025.

Dimitri Beeckman is Vice Head of Research and Internationalisation at the School of Health Sciences.
