Syftet är att utvärdera the empirical need for European Union involvement in criminal justice matters as well as the suitability and effectiveness of mechanisms already introduced in the area. It seeks to estimate the potential benefit of alternative and proposed mechanisms e.g. as foreseen by the Lisbon Treaty.
