Hazardous goods
During the legislative process leading up to the Act on the prohibition of certain goods dangerous to health, a requirement of possible intervention was emphasised if the goods endanger human life or health when used due to their inherent properties and are likely used for the purpose of intoxication or other influence, except for narcotics, doping substances, or authorised medicines. The government decides which goods by law are listed in the Annex to the Ordinance (1999:58; amended 2020:585) on the prohibition of certain goods dangerous to health. Obtaining a permit for handling hazardous goods requires that the goods must only be used for scientific or industrial purposes. Handling certain hazardous goods requires a permit application to the Public Health Agency of Sweden. Specific preparations containing gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) and 1,4-butanediol (1,4-BD) are exempted from the permit requirement. See the Public Health Agency of Sweden’s website for more information.
