Ionising radiation
Work with ionising radiation requires a permit from the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM). Before starting an activity, the university's Radiation Protection Manager (Cecilia Lagerström) must be notified, and must approve the activity. Each division/school working with ionising radiation must have and store its own documentation, including permits, instructions, regulations, staff training, information on radioactive substances and their activity, radioactive waste, contamination inspections, etc. The activity must be inventoried and reported annually to the Swedish Radiation Authority. ORUs Radiation Protection Manager must assess the divisions’ inventory and decide whether the activity will continue to receive local approval.
Employees working with ionising radiation must comply with SSM’s regulations and Örebro University’s local radiation protection regulations, have the necessary skills/training, use adequate protective equipment/protective devices and work according to the procedures established for the activity. The person carrying out the work is responsible for ensuring that radioactive waste is handled in accordance with the university's regulations. Contact your local contact person for further information.
Employees who are exposed to ionising radiation in their work must undergo mandatory medical check-ups.
