Laboratory Safety Manual

KLARA chemical database and annual chemical inventory

Under laws and regulations, professional users are required to keep records of chemical products that can pose a risk to health and/or the environment. ORU uses KLARA, a chemical database in which all chemical products used are registered, including those not classified as hazardous. KLARA includes a general section that all employees have access to. This section contains information on chemicals, e.g. their safety data sheets.

The register must be continuously updated, and a chemical inventory is carried out at the end of each calendar year. Each division at ORU where chemicals are handled has an inventory taker who is responsible for KLARA, the register update and the annual chemical inventory. User accounts in KLARA are always personal and must not be shared, and the login details must never be disclosed to others. Login and user permissions for KLARA are administered by Carina Modig (carina.modig@oru.se).

Medicines and drugs may not be registered in KLARA. Antibodies and proteins do not need to be registered, unless they are mixed with chemicals (e.g. sodium azide, commonly used as a preservative).
