Chemical safety
Before starting work that involves handling hazardous substances, a risk assessment of the handling must be carried out. “Chemical risks” refers to any risks associated with the handling of chemical products, with regard to personal safety, work environment and the external environment. All employees at ORU who handle chemical products in their workplace must have knowledge of the laws, rules and procedures that apply within this area, and are responsible for complying with them.
“Chemical hazard” means a chemical substance or product or several substances which together may cause ill health or accidents due to their hazardous properties or their temperature, by reducing the oxygen concentration in the air, or by increasing the risk of fire, explosion or other dangerous chemical reactions. Mould spores and chemical substances released from microorganisms, which may cause allergies and toxic effects, also come under the definition of a chemical hazard.
