The Swedish Institute Scholarship Pioneering Women in STEM is an academic scholarship open to female citizens from eligible and includes besides others full tuition fee coverage and a monthly stipend of SEK 12,000.

During the autumn 2024, the Swedish Institute (SI) launched a new scholarship – Pioneering Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).  Through the scholarship, SI aim to create a more diverse and equal STEM-field as well as develop a network of future global leaders that will contribute to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and drive the development of their home countries forward.  

The scholarship is available for all Master’s programmes at Örebro University given in the field of STEM. 

To be eligible to apply for a scholarship an applicant:

  • must be a female citizens of the following countries: Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam and be required to pay tuition fees for studies.
  • Have paid the application fee by February 03, 2025 latest.

The SI scholarship Pioneering women in STEM is a competitive fully-funded scholarship that includes:

  • Full tuition fee coverage. The fee is paid directly by SI to your Swedish university in the beginning of each semester.
  • A monthly stipend of SEK 12,000 to cover your living expenses throughout the study period.
  • A travel grant of SEK 15,000. This is a one-time payment and does not apply for students already living in Sweden.
  • Membership in the SI Network for Future Global Professionals (NFGP) – a platform to help you grow professionally and build a network while in Sweden.
  • After your scholarship period has ended, you become a member of the SI Alumni Network. As a member, you get a unique opportunity for continued networking and professional development.
  • The application form for the Scholarship Programme Pioneering Women in STEM will be sent out on February 05, 2025 to all students that have Örebro University as first priority and that have paid the application fee by February 03, 2025 latest.
  • Fill out the application form accordingly and submit all the required information and documents before deadline.
  • Örebro University will then select suitable candidates and nominte them to the Swedish Institute for the Scholarship
  • Pioneering Women in STEM scholarship results will be published on the Swedish Institite's website: Pioneering Women in STEM on April 24, 2025.

To assess your application, you need to add the following mandatory supporting documents to the application:

  • Personal motivation letter (maximum 2 page)
  • CV (maximum 2 page)
  • Copy of valid passport or identity card to document your citizenship
  • Documention of all your previous higher education studies. This means you need to provide documentation of your completed degree(s), and transcripts with courses and grades (Academic Transcript of Records).

All the documents need to be merged in to one single PDF file. Only documents in a PDF-format will be considered. Maximum file size is 4 Mb.

The selection criteria for Örebro University to nominate you for the scholarship to the Swedish Institute are:

  • Motivation and suitability for the chosen program
  • Demonstration of strong academic performance
  • Shown interest and strong commitment to studying at Örebro University
