“In Örebro, I’ve grown on a personal level.”

Lily Bahati Kampani from Malawi.

“Studying at Örebro University has been nothing short of amazing,” says Lily Bahati Kampani, who recently completed the one-year Master’s Programme in Strategic Communication. She describes her time in Örebro as exciting, filled with new experiences and a perfect balance between study and life.

“I found a balance that made my life less stressful, allowing me to enjoy my studies and embrace Swedish culture. I like things lagom,” says Lily. In Swedish, lagom means “just the right amount,” reflecting the Swedish approach to balance, which Lily quickly learned to appreciate.

Her time at Örebro also introduced her to new people and diverse cultural experiences.

“Making new friends and learning about different cultures was one of the highlights of my time here. And embracing the Swedish way of life while managing my academic responsibilities.”

Discovering Örebro and a supportive environment

About Örebro, Lily says, “It’s a town that fits my personality perfectly. I love nature, and the small city vibe here is wonderful.” She admits finding her way around was tricky at first, but she finally got the hang of it. “I found hidden gems around every corner. I love that the university is surrounded by beautiful nature reserves and trails – perfect to unwind and explore.”

Lily Bahati Kampani particularly appreciates the supportive environment at the Örebro University.  “It’s not just the teachers. Everyone working at the university was really accommodating and always willing to lend a helping hand.”

Looking ahead: making a difference with new skills

Lily Bahati Kampani relates her time at Örebro University as more than just acquiring academic knowledge – she’s gained a broader perspective on life.

“I’ve grown on a personal level. I’ve learned to live in harmony with people from different backgrounds. I appreciate learning to value my mental health. This whole experience has taught me to find joy in the small moments.”

Having earned a Master’s degree, Lily is ready to face new challenges. She plans to use her skills and knowledge to work in development, focusing on helping the less privileged.

“I want to mentor other women and encourage them to reach for their goals,” she says. Lily believes the sky is the limit and hopes to inspire others to believe in that.

Swedish Institute scholarship opens doors to new opportunities

She acknowledges the impact of the Swedish Institute scholarship on her journey.

“The SI scholarship has been life-changing for me. It made my dream of studying in Europe possible without piling up a heavy financial burden.”
