Global Cinema, 7.5 Credits
The course introduces Global Cinema as a research perspective for examining film as a transcultural phenomenon. We explore various examples of film production, circulation, and reception in relation to global market forces and notions of national/regional/local identity, with particular emphasis on non-Eurocentric perspectives and hybrid cultural expressions. Upon completion of the course, you will have a basic understanding of Global Cinema as a research perspective on historical and contemporary film culture. You will also be able to conduct independent analyses of films as transcultural phenomena in dialogue with relevant theories.
