Film Culture and History, 7.5 Credits
The course examines the history of cinema as a social and cultural phenomenon. With movie theaters and other public screening spaces as our starting point, we study the social functions and cultural meanings of the film medium during different historical events. We practice empirical historical research and work with questions such as: How do we watch film? Who watches movies? Why? We also turn our attention to the hierarchies and perspectives of film historiography.
