Economics, Institutional Economics, 7.5 Credits
Why are some countries rich and others poor? Why do firms exist? How do laws, rules and social norms emerge? And how do such institutions ¬– the ‘rules of the game’ – affect economic, political, and social interactions between people? The course addresses these interlinked questions. At the micro level, we examine transaction costs, property rights, and contracts to understand how people act and firms are organised. At the macro level, we focus on the interplay between political institutions, power, and economic development.
