Sport Science is by nature an interdisciplinary subject area and is defined as the study of physical activity undertaken with the objective of promoting physical and mental health, recreation, sport performance and aesthetic experience.

The research study subject area of Sport Science at Örebro University focuses both sports physiology research on the healthy and the diseased body's adaptation to both inactivity as acute and prolonged physical work at various types of exercise and physical activity, and social and educational scientific aspects of sports included sporting didactical, sports psychology and sports historical issues and methods. The survey object for study in the research subject area can be school physical education and health, association sports, fitness and recreational sports, play, outdoor life physical performance, as well as physical exercise as a measure of prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of disorders.
