Course Syllabus

This course is a collaboration between Örebro University, KI/NASP/LIME and Uppsala University.

Course content

The focus of the course is that the doctoral student will increase their knowledge in suicidology as a research topic. The course also includes practical application of suicide risk assessment. The goal is for the doctoral student, based on previous research, to acquire knowledge of theories and methods in the current research area. The course will also provide an opportunity to reason together about ethical approach and other issues that may arise during research studies in the field of suicide.

Course information

The language of instruction is English. 

During the course, the doctoral student completes a short written assignment, give an oral presentation of the assignment and opposes someone else's work. The written assignment must be written in English. Literature used on the course should be included as a larger part of the reference literature. A more detailed description of written assignment and opposition is given at the start of the course in the study guide.

The course is planned to be given in the autumn semester of 2024, in Stockholm (NASP, KI), during the calendar weeks 37-43.

Planned dates for participation on site in Stockholm are:
12 and 13 September
26 and 27 September
October 10
October 24 (examination)

The remaining time can be spent at a location of your choiche and is intended for self-study, group assignments and preparation for the examination assignment. A detailed schedule will be updated and sent out to those accepted in due time before the start of the course.

Admission requirements

In order to participate in the course and the examinations that are included in the course, the applicant must be admitted to a doctoral programme at a Swedish university. The course has room for a maximum of 20 doctoral students and is provided on the condition that at least 6 doctoral students are accepted and able to start. Doctoral students from Uppsala University, Karolinska Institutet or Örebro University have priority.
