Interventions for the management of Pain and Sedation in Newborns undergoing Therapeutic hypothermia for hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy
About this project
Project information
Newborn infants that suffer from perinatal asphyxia can be treated with therapeutic hypothermia (TH) during 72 hours. Research has shown that TH, where the body temperature is lowered to 33.5 degrees Celcius reduces the risk of negative long term effects in the brain. There are however no consensus regarding pain relief or sedation during the treatment and a systematic review will therefor be performed.
