Stance that trigger conflict escalation

In this research we will discuss stances and how they influence conflict escalations.

The results have emerged out of research about neighbor conflicts. This work presents a study on stance and conflict escalating displayed during a mediating situation in a Swedish TV series dealing with neighbor conflicts.

We are framing two different stances that escalate the conflict at hand; condescending and resolute.

The arguing parties in the televised program about neighbor conflicts use the stances as a strategy in the situation in order to establish their view of the conflict as being the most truthful. We will relate this result to a holistic approach of the nonverbal communication where we consider a multimodal actio meaning how different modalities work together and in what way they are preformed.
