Update and use your researcher profiles and IDs

Researcher profiles refer to various types of profile pages on the web, as well as more specifically the profile pages that each researcher has in different databases that index research. If you have published in a scientific journal, you have a researcher profile/researcher ID in bibliometric databases like Web of Science and Scopus.

To ensure that all your research results are correctly attributed to the right author, it is important that you update the following researcher profiles and IDs.

If you do not have an ORCID:

  • Create an ORCID at https://orcid.org/
  • Add your publications to your ORCID page. This can be done manually, but it is easier to import them automatically by linking your ORCID to Scopus and Web of Science. More information about the import process can be found under 2. Update your Scopus profile and 3. Update your Web of Science profile

If you already have an ORCID:

  • Check that your ORCID is updated with information about your affiliation/current workplace.
  • Check that the publication list on your ORCID page is complete. If publications are missing, they can be added manually, but it is easier to import them automatically by linking your ORCID to Scopus and Web of Science. More information about the import process can be found further down under 2. Update your Scopus profile and 3. Update your Web of Science profile.

You should only register for and have one ORCID. For your ORCID to function as a way to identify your collective research output, you must consistently use the same ID number. When you publish, always provide your ORCID – this way, the publication will automatically appear on your ORCID page.

After obtaining an ORCID, you also need to register your ORCID on the ORU website so that it appears in the university’s directory and is visible on your profile page on oru.se.

The first time you have a publication published in a journal indexed in the Scopus database, a researcher ID is automatically created. In Scopus, this is called the Scopus Author ID. At the same time, a Scopus profile is automatically created.

Open Scopus

1. Create an account in Scopus.
You should not create an account with Örebro University as the organisation, but rather a personal account. If you already have an account, log in.

1. Skapa ett konto i Scopus. Om du redan gjort det logga in dig.

2. Search for your name under "Authors".
If you find that you have more than one profile, you need to merge the profiles into a single one by selecting the profiles and clicking on "Request to merge authors". You will receive an email from Scopus when the changes have been processed, usually within a couple of days.

2. Leta fram ditt namn under fliken "Authors".

3. Check the information on your profile and make other changes.

  • Check that all your information is correct.
  • Check that all publications listed under your profile are your own. You should remove articles where you are not the author.
  • Check that no relevant publications are missing. You can only add publications that are indexed in Scopus.
  • Submit any changes. You will receive an email from Scopus when the changes have been processed, usually within a couple of days.

The first time you have a publication published in a journal indexed in the Web of Science database, a researcher ID is automatically created. In Web of Science, this is called the Web of Science ResearcherID.

Open Web of Science

1. Create an account in Web of Science.
If you already have an account, log in.

2. Create your researcher profile if you have not done so already.

1. Skapa din forskarprofil

3. Search for your name under "Researchers".
Click on the profile that belongs to you and click "Claim my record" to claim your works.

2. Gör anspråk på dina arbeten

4. Click on "Review matching profiles".
If you find that you have multiple profiles or if publications are missing, you can merge profiles or add publications that have been placed on the wrong profile. Submit any changes. The changes will be processed and visible once Web of Science has reviewed and approved them. This usually takes at least a week.

3. Om du har ett namn som liknar andras kan du granska om du kan slå ihop flera konton om du är samma person (Review matching profiles).

5. Once you have received confirmation that your changes have been approved, you need to link your ORCID to Web of Science.
You link your ORCID under "ORCID Syncing" in "My Web of Science" in the left-hand menu. Follow the instructions to also import publications from Web of Science to your ORCID page.

Under "EDIT," you can also make other changes to your profile. Be sure to add information about your affiliation/current workplace under "Primary Organization."

4. Under My Web of Science i menyn till vänster kan du ändra din profil, bland annat lägga till en ORCID (klicka på EDIT) eller lägga till en organisation.

6. On your researcher profile, you should also remove articles that are not yours.
Click "Remove" for the items you want to delete.

5. På din profilsida kan du också ta bort artiklar som inte är dina. Klicka på "Remove".

As an employee, you have a personal profile page on oru.se that you update yourself. Make sure to link your updated ORCID to your personal page.

Also, ensure that you link your other updated researcher IDs, such as Scopus and Web of Science, to your profile page on the ORU website under "Link to your social media and profiles."
