As local and regional governments set out to make the necessary shift to more sustainable mobility, integrating road safety is important – sustainable mobility must be safe mobility. This project aims to further our understanding of how the safety of cyclists and pedestrians are integrated in urban planning processes aimed at sustainable mobility. Furthermore, the project will investigate how the Vision Zero approach to road safety can be used to guide local sustainability work and how to strengthen stakeholder collaboration.
The project will review existing research and grey literature, conduct in-depth case studies of three sustainability projects (the introduction of a Bus Rapid Transit system in Örebro, the building of cycling highways in Linköping, and the development of shared spaces prioritizing pedestrians in Malmö), and facilitate dialogue between researchers and practitioners using policy labs.
