Results from national and international research consistently indicate that sexual harassment (SH) occurs among youth athletes within their sports teams or clubs. For example, results from our quantitative project (Sexual harassment among young people in organised leisure and sports environments) that followed young people across three years show that SH is common in organized sports. At the same time, our research has led to new questions about how young people themselves understand and think about SH, something that can never be fully understood based on survey data.

This project aims to gain a deeper understanding of SH among young athletes. We will interview 20 15–18-year-old athletes about their experiences and thoughts about sexual harassment. Knowledge about SH among young people in organized sports based on their own voices will have scientific but also practical significance for coaches, parents, and sports organizations.
