Age-associated gastrointestinal symptoms
About this project
Project information
The research performed within the project has shown that almost 65% of elderly people living in their own homes experience one or several GI symptoms. Recently, we were able to show that moderate problems with constipation and diarrhea were associated with an altered gut barrier and increased psychological distress. Recently we could show that the gut microbiota composition is altered in elderly individuals suffering from gastrointestinal symptoms and that healthy elderly participating in orienteering has a higher level of a bacteria associated with a healthy gut.
