Network medicine and systems biological approaches to modeling inflammation

Qualitative and quantitative models are built for both physiological background and most important physiological and molecular players in selected medical problems. Recently, we were focusing on investigating the role of butyrate in modeling the inflammatory response of gut epithelial cells, studying the switch-like behaviour of this system. In perspective, we aim to use qualitative modeling together with biosignature screening for synergistic effects: Better quality biosignatures, with relevant predictive values in the clinical setting, are expected by including knowledge about how clinical and physiological variables work together.
