The aim of this project is to study the human exposome, with the main focus on toxic compound exposure in early development. We will characterize the exposome and the metabolic profile in humans, and study the effect of toxic exposome, particularly in relation to the development of autoimmune diseases. The goal is to identify of those substances/substance mixtures that are major drivers of putative adverse toxic effects. In this project, it may be possible to identify a group of relevant chemicals and/or metabolic biomarkers that can be used for monitoring of the health effects of the toxic exposome, thus providing new tools for dealing with combined exposures that could improve the risk assessment and management, with significant impacts from environmental and human health perspective.
