The Auchinleck Chronicle
About this project
Project information
The Auchinleck Chronicle, or "Ane Schort Memoriale of the Scottis Corniklis for Addicioun", is a late 15th century chronicle about the reign of King James II. It is written in Middle Scots and in addition to its historical value, it is also interesting from a linguistic point of view. Shortly before the Chronicle was written, Scottis became the name for the language of government and administration in the Stewart Kingdom, replacing the term "Inglis". The aim of this project is to create a fully tagged (syntactically and semantically) edition of the Chronicle that can form part of the knowledge base of the Early Scots language in a period when it became the language of power.
