Stochastic simulations of partial differential equations
About this project
Project information
Two seemingly different areas of science and technology are investigated in the project. The first being classical physical properties of porous materials through three-dimensional digital images that can originate from different CT-techniques in a range of applications. The second area concerns quantum physical properties of trapped ultra-cold fermionic and bosonic atoms and molecules.
However, in both areas we develop and use stochastic ordinary differential equations (SDE), popularly called random walks, in the practical implementations. The SDEs can stem from classic PDE models via so called Feynman-Kac formulae or Fokker-Plank equations resulting from an alternative representation of the Schrödinger equation in second quantization.
