Film Satire and American Exceptionalism
About this project
Project information
The main argument here is that certain satirical films problematize, if not criticize, one of the organizing principles of the United States, that of American exceptionalism, which signifies the view of the U.S. as qualitatively different from other countries. Specifically, I am interested in how said films can be seen as commentaries on the conservative and neoconservative notion of America as a superior nation that is exempt from historical forces.
