ICT for development (ICT4D)
About this group
Group information
ICT4D concerns issues such as access to technology and Internet, communication patterns and information needs of the poor and marginalized. The field is inherently multidisciplinary situated within numerous disciplinary frameworks such as development theory, informatics, computer science, pedagogy and sociology. Within this field the we undertakes a range of various empirical researches, in various developing countries, all-relating to the use of ICT for development. We have a mutual perspective of improving the living conditions of people with a bottom-up-approach; i.e. we do not stipulate what development is, rather we believe that technologies can empower people thereby enabling them to set their own development agendas. We work in a large international community and have so far produced two award-winning dissertations ("Best Swedish thesis in Informatics").
