Group information
Geriatrics is focused on preventing, diagnosing, treating, nursing and rehabilitating diseases in old age. A central concept is frailty which means reduced reserves in the organs of the body due to ageing, usually in combination with disease. We want our research to contribute to high-quality personalized care for elderly people with frailty, multiple diagnoses, polypharmacy and increasing care needs.
Ongoing research focuses on the following topics:
- Frailty and impact of cognitive and emotional impairments
- Orthogeriatric care including hip fractures and leg amputations
- Malnutrition, sarcopenia and refeeding syndome
- Geriatric neurology; Stroke in the oldest old
- Pharmacology
- The aging gut
- Cognitive medicine including psychiatric, neurological and, cognitive symtoms and biomarker analyses in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid
- Cerebral hemodynamics in mild cognitive impairment and dementia
- Behavioural and psychiatric symptoms in dementia ( BPSD) and biomarkers
- Old Age Psychiatry and cognitive therapy
- Physical activity and nutrition as treatment for depression/anxiety (RCT)
- Covid 19 long-term effects in the geriatric population and in collaboration with the primary care (RCT)
