RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an umbrella term for a range of psychological treatments that aim to change emotions, thoughts, and behaviours on the basis of learning and cognitive theories. Research on CBT in CHAMP aims to develop and improve psychological treatments for a range of mental and physical conditions, such as sleep disorders, tinnitus, pain, IBS, depression, eating disorders, and anxiety.

Our theory- and process-driven treatment research is premised on basic psychological research and theories of learning, emotions and cognition. We have a particular interest in advancing behavioral therapies based on learning theory (e.g., exposure therapy). Another central focus of our research is to understand how our most effective treatments work – the specific mechanisms involved and for whom they are most effective.

In addition to controlled clinical trials, we conduct research on the implementation of treatments in different settings, such as healthcare. Furthermore, we examine the effectiveness of different modes of intervention delivery, such as internet-delivered self-help treatments, to increase the availability evidence-based psychological treatments.
