The WASP program is a 14-year initiative slated to run until 2030. During the project period, SEK 5.5 billion will be invested. The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation contributes SEK 4.2 billion, with additional funding from universities and industrial companies. All in all, this makes WASP Sweden's most significant single research investment in modern times.
One of the goals of WASP is to recruit 80–100 new research groups. The research programme is dimensioned to train at least 600 new doctoral students, included are at least 150 industrial doctoral students.
Research takes place at the Swedish universities, Chalmers University of Technology, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Linköping University, Lund University and Umeå University. Through a strengthened AI investment from WASP, Örebro University and research groups at Uppsala University are also participating. The starting point is the combined competence in electrical engineering, computer technology and computer science.
WASP strengthens, expands, and renews the national competence through new strategic recruitments, a challenging research program, a national graduate school, and collaboration with industry.
