A chef, a judge, a sexologist, a chemist and a sports manager – here are Örebro University’s five new alumni on the Wall of Inspiration display.

Jens Ericsson, Joanna Hedqvist, Kalle Norwald, Johanna Gillberg and Henrik Löwdahl. Today saw the unveiling of five new portraits of alumni celebrated in Örebro University’s jubilee display Wall of Inspiration.
“It’s humbling to be a part of this display,” says sexologist Kalle Norwald, a graduate of the Social Work Programme at Örebro University.

The Wall of Inspiration is located in Novahuset on Örebro University’s main campus. Welcome to pay it a visit. Learn more about the new alumni here.

Stockholm-native Kalle Norwald chose Örebro University because he had heard great things about the town and student life – and because the Social Work Programme in Örebro had the best reputation.

“My time at Örebro University was amazing. Some go to Southeast Asia to find themselves – I went to Örebro. It was here I really grew up,” he says.

Örebro – the obvious first choice

For Joanna Hedqvist, born and raised in Örebro, studying law at Örebro University was without hesitation her first choice. She now practises as a legal counsel at the Ministry of Finance and holds the associate judge title, meaning she has completed her training to become a judge.

“The law programme at Örebro was very intense at times, while at the same time tremendously educational and, to be honest, quite fun. Those years shaped my personality and way of thinking – and I met some of my best friends here,” she says.

“The environment in Grythyttan is amazing”

Jens Ericsson trained as a chef at the School of Hospitality, Culinary Arts and Meal Science at Örebro University. Today, he is the General Manager of the Swedish National and Junior Culinary Teams.

“The environment in Grythyttan is amazing, with so many like-minded people living and studying together in such a small area. My time in Grythyttan helped me grow – and I’m less shy and reserved today,” he says.

Helping industry make a greener impact

Johanna Gillberg chose to study analytical chemistry and forensics at Örebro University to fulfil her dream of working as a forensic scientist.

Three years later, she graduated as an environmental chemist firmly committed to sustainability. Today, she runs a company that has developed technology to purify industrial wastewater from chemicals and PFAS.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today had I not studied at Örebro. There aren’t many three-year programmes that make that sort of impact. Being a chemist is a big part of my identity,” she says.

"Surreal and surprising"

Henrik Löwdahl is renowned for his long and successful ice hockey career and is the Sports Manager for Örebro Hockey. The teacher programme at Örebro University equipped him with valuable tools and the confidence to lead with clarity and warmth.

How does it feel to be honoured as an alumnus on the Wall of Inspiration?

“It feels awesome! It’s a little surreal and surprising, but it’s such a great feeling. And truly an honour,” says Henrik Löwdahl.

The Wall of Inspiration display was created to mark Örebro University’s 20th anniversary. Now that the university is celebrating 25 years as a university, the display has been updated to include five new alumni. The photographer is Ulla-Carin Ekblom.
