Yang Cao is an Associate Professor, Biostatistician and Epidemiologist in the Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, School of Medical Sciences, Örebro University, who provides supervision and statistical support for all phases medical science researches.

Academic Teaching and Supervision

Key responsibilities in statistics and epidemiology

  • Clinical research conduction in accordance with the principles of ICH/GCP.
  • Epidemiology/Clinical Study Protocols design and project proposal.
  • Review the paper or electronic Case Report Forms, the Data Management Plans.
  • Develop Statistical Analysis Plans, output shells specifications following data standards (i.e. CDISC); tables, figures and listings programming.
  • Provide input to set-up of rules for protocol violations.
  • Provide oversight and evaluation of quality of data.
  • Analysing and reporting for clinical trials and epidemiology studies.
  • Prepare and participate in client meetings (i.e. Blinded Data Review Meeting).
  • Preparation, maintenance, and checking of biostatistics documentation follow SOPs/WIs.
  • Review and distribute statistical deliverables for Clinical Study Report (CSR) results.
  • Preparation of integrated clinical, statistical reports and regulatory documents.
  • Observational study design, organization and implementation.
  • Power and sample size calculation, randomization, case-control matching.
  • Registry data linkage, data curation, review and cleaning, data quality evaluation, and validation checks.
  • Statistical modelling, meta-analysis, network meta-analysis.
  • Scientific papers writing/reviewing.

Main statistical methodologies: data modelling, analysis of variance/covariance, binary data analysis, longitudinal analysis (repeated measures), generalized additive mixed model, survival analysis, Cox regression, flexible parametric survival analysis, quantile regression model, structural equational model, multiple imputation and imputed data analysis, meta-analysis, network meta-analysis, latent variable analysis, Q methods, nonparametric statistics, resampling statistics, Bayesian methods, statistical learning/machine learning/deep learning methods, and different data visualization techniques.

Main therapeutic areas: cardiology, oncology, gynaecology, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, neuroscience (depression), IBD, anaesthesiology and medical conditions (i.e. cardiovascular, chronic kidney, respiratory, autoimmune diseases), vaccines.

Main statistical software: Stata 15.1, SAS 9.4, R 3.51, Python 3.6, SPSS 25. I used to work also with Matlab, Statistica, Minitab, Mplus, Resampling Stats, Graphpad, NCSS and PASS, RevMan, winBUGS, et al.

Key responsibilities in programming: Programming of tables, figures and listings and support of analysis datasets (also ADaM, when CDISC required). Randomization lists and sample size calculations. Experience with programming analyses and patients’ profiles within the scope of Monitoring Committees.
