About Steffen Keiter

Humans and wildlife are increasingly exposed to complex chemical mixtures, often referred to as 'pollutant cocktails,' which pose significant health risks. My research focuses on unraveling the toxicological responses and interactions of these chemical mixtures in complex environmental samples, such as sediments. Specifically, I aim to deepen our understanding of the molecular processes and their effects on aquatic organisms, with a particular emphasis on zebrafish. By investigating the impact of emerging pollutants and their combinations, my work contributes to advancing human and environmental health. Given the conservation of key toxicological pathways between humans and zebrafish, this research holds relevance not only for environmental protection but also for human health risk assessments.
