About Naveed Asghar

Naveed Asghar is a Researcher/Assitant Professor in biomedicine with a focus on virology and vaccine development at the School of Medical Sciences, Örebro University.

Research
Molecular virology and immunology are the main research fields for Naveed. His research mainly focuses on the Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus, West Nile virus, Zika virus and Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). He studies cellular immune responses after viral infections to understand underlying virus-host interactions and virulence determinants of viruses. He has developed infectious clone models for different flaviviruses through the reverse genetics approach to perform these studies.

His research aims to develop vaccines against hepatitis and TBE viruses by utilizing the flavivirus replicons and infectious clone models established by him. Naveed is also a key researcher in several projects focusing on epidemiological surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 and TBE viruses in Sweden and Norway, using genetic, serological and clinical data from the patients.
