About Mats Öhlén
Mats Öhlén is senior lecturer in political science. He got a masters degree in political science at Örebro university, where he also defended his PhD thesis in 2013 about party families in the EU and their role in democratisation processes in Central and Eastern Europe.
Research
Mats Öhlén's research centres on the EU departing from aspects such as instutional challenges of democracy, transnational party families and the role of the EU for democratisation processes in its neighbourhood, primarily Central- and Eastern Europe. He is an active participant in the Swedish network for Europan Studies in Political Science (SNES) and he has also published for the Swedish Institute for European Policy Studies (SIEPS).
Teaching
Mats Öhlén has previously given courses at Mid Sweden University and Dalarna University with a focus on the EU, comparative politics, international relations and thesis supervision. Since 2023, he teaches at Örebro University at basic undergraduate level in for example political systems, political parties, public opinion and participation. He also teaches at second level courses in for example policy processes and methods. He also supervise theses on bachelor- and master level.
